The 5 Fields

  1. 01Primary category: pass looks like one dropdown, the category a customer would say out loud ("Plumber", "Locksmith"). The usual bug is a category chosen for keywords, or changed on a working listing — never change the primary category of a live, working listing.
  2. 02Primary phone: pass looks like the number that actually rings a person or an agent that takes a ticket. The usual bug is the right number sitting in "additional phones" — Google's call button dials primary only, so the listing looks fine and never rings.
  3. 03Website button: pass looks like a link to this location's page on the current domain. The usual bug is an old domain, the homepage instead of the location page, or a link that redirects.
  4. 04Business name: pass looks like a name that matches the signage, the bills and how customers say it. The usual bug is keywords stuffed into the name — a rename is the fastest way to a suspension or a re-verification.
  5. 05Address type: pass looks like a walk-in premise with signage showing the address, or a service-area business with the address hidden and the service area set. The usual bug is an address shown for a business nobody can walk into.

If the Listing Is Suspended

  1. 01Read the actual reason in the email from Google. Do not assume it matches last time.
  2. 02Align all five fields above to real-world proof (signage, formation docs, a recent utility bill at that address). Every document must show the same name and address.
  3. 03Real documents and real photos only. AI-generated storefronts, trucks or teams as evidence end the listing for good.
  4. 04One appeal per decision. The evidence-upload window opens right after filing, so have the files ready before you click.
  5. 05Check the other listings on the same Google account. Suspensions travel through shared accounts.

The Four Other Listings (One Hour, Once)

  1. 01Apple Business Connect · Bing Places · Yelp · your city or state license registry (the .gov record). Same name, same address, same primary phone as Google, character for character.

FAQ

Questions this file answers

What fields should I check on my Google Business Profile?
Check five fields in order: primary category, primary phone, website button, business name and address type. Each should match real-world proof — the category a customer would say out loud, the number that actually rings a person, and a name that matches your signage and bills.
Why does my Google listing look fine but never rings?
The usual bug is that the right phone number sits in "additional phones" instead of primary. Google's call button dials the primary number only, so the listing looks correct while calls never come through.
What should I do if my Google Business Profile gets suspended?
Read the actual reason in Google's email rather than assuming it matches a past suspension, then align all five fields to real-world proof like signage, formation docs and a recent utility bill — every document must show the same name and address. Use real documents and real photos only; AI-generated storefronts or teams end the listing for good.
Can I rename my Google Business Profile safely?
Never change the primary category of a live, working listing — keywords stuffed into the name is the fastest way to a suspension or re-verification. A rename should still align all fields to real-world proof.
What other listings should match my Google profile?
Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yelp, and your city or state license registry should all show the same name, address and primary phone as Google, character for character. Check these once — it takes about an hour.
